I attended Columbus State University, where I earned my bachelor's degree in Biology. I can't remember a time when I have not been fascinated by the world around me. Luckily, the adults in my life encouraged my interests, and allowed me to study nature on my own, including taking a walking trip through a swamp. So I come by my interest in the sciences honestly. As often happens with those interested in science, I also discovered an affinity with math classes, as well. Many people struggle with these subjects, so I started tutoring other students in college in small groups of three to five students at a time. The program I was doing this as part of resulted in increased success rates for students in STEM classes. I also spent time teaching labs, and taught non-traditional students at a local technical college. When I was a junior in college, I added Secondary Education to my degree, because I knew by then that I would always want to share my passion for science with students. Since graduation, I have had experience teaching biology in high school, science in middle school, and conducting college-level science labs in botany, biology, and anatomy. I have always continued individual tutoring, as well.
